The RESCUE team will join the second THE-GLOW co-creation workshop from September 25-28.

The RESCUE team will join the second THE-GLOW co-creation workshop from September 25-28. Currently, the THE-GLOW (Transdisciplinary Higher Education for Global Wellbeing) team is finalizing the first year’s technical and financial reports. The development of the second year’s courses will commence with a four-day co-creation workshop from September 25-28 at Thammasat University, featuring a new batch of teachers from each university. THE-GLOW, the RESCUE team’s first international project, stands for ‘Transdisciplinary Higher Education for Global Wellbeing.’ Launched in 2023 and running until 2026, the project aims to develop nine transdisciplinary courses (three courses per year) for graduate students from Kasetsart University (KU), Thammasat University (TU), and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). The first set of three courses was successfully delivered from May to June this year, as outlined below: #1. “Transdisciplinary Approach to Health and Well-being” (20-31, May) https://theglow-project.org/2024/05/31/transdisciplinary-approach-to-health-and-well-being/ #2. “Gender and Climate Change Intersections: A Transdisciplinary Approach” (2 credits, 4-14, June) https://theglow-project.org/2024/06/14/gender-and-climate-change-intersections-a-transdisciplinary-approach/ #3. “Transdisciplinary Approach to Zero Hunger” (2 credits, 17-28, June) https://theglow-project.org/2024/06/27/transdisciplinary-approach-to-zero-hunger/ Stay tuned for updates and please support the THE-GLOW project in fostering capacity building for students and faculty in transdisciplinary education. [THE-GLOW] Panel discussion 2 for the intervention course description

Transdisciplinary approach to health and well-being Panel Discussion 2 Theme: Lessons from different types of interventions for Dengue prevention and control. As outlined in the attached Course Description, we aim to engage our students in critical reflections to unpack complex health and social issues, using Dengue as a case study. The course aims to help students realize the importance of transdisciplinary and multi-sectoral collaborations toward more equitable and sustainable solutions contributing to the SDGs, particularly SDG 3. Although we use Dengue as a case study, our panel discussions – of which there are three in this course – aim to include experts from different disciplinary fields relevant to realizing integrated and holistic responses. This is a practical way to expose our students to a transdisciplinary perspective, as the panels will contribute insights from diverse fields of knowledge, and practices that our students can critically assess and apply. From this standpoint, we would like to clarify that we do not aim to burden the panel speakers with the responsibility of lecturing on transdisciplinary and multi-sectoral approaches. Our course will be offered over ten days during the last two weeks in May 2024. Before the course starts, students will receive an orientation on transdisciplinary approaches to health during a pre-program workshop. This topic will also be discussed with the students throughout the course. The course will also include discussions on topics such as: · Social determinants of health and sustainable development · Fundamentals about Dengue · Climate change and health · Examples of different types of Dengue prevention and control interventions · Inclusive and transformative approaches to health and well-being, and relevance to SDG3 · Gender, social inclusion, equity and health · Data and information for designing socially inclusive and transformative interventions However, during the panels and the Q&A sessions with the students afterward, we would appreciate it if the speakers could share any insights they may have on transdisciplinary and multi-sectoral work, particularly in the context of addressing health issues (such as Dengue) in the context of climate change. For detailed information about the invited panelists, please kindly check the attached PDF file.

[THE-GLOW] If you want to have 'beehives' at your home, check this out!

(28 April 2024) 'The stingless beehives provide us extra income!' Recent visiting of THE-GLOW teaching team provided a chance to engage Thailand local community's farming activities. The 'Stingless bees' are safe enough to have surroundings of your house as the tiny insects do not sting you at all! Ajarn Anchana from the Department of Entomology, Faculty of Agriculture at Kasetsart Univeristy translated and explained the local farmer's apicultural experience. According to the interview, around 1 kg of high quality honey products can be produced from each hive, and it would be quite an amount as he has total 70 hives in his garden. Unfortunately, the extreme wether in Bangkok this year resulted dropped yield because of not only reduced flowering trees, but also the high temperature melt down breeding cells in the box. Thankfully, the local species of bees may know how to adapt the rapidly changing weather condition, but the results would not that great news as the farmers may will lost the local bees, but invasive species (bigger body sized) in some day along with changing ecosystems surrounding the area. For the details, please listen to Ajarn Anchana's interview with the local stingless bee farmer. We have another chance for further discussion with the local farmers about the matter of climate change and stingless bee farming problems dated on 8 June 2024 with students. Stay tunned!

[THE-GLOW] Teaching team explored Bangkok's 'green lung'!

"Bang Kachao, a hidden oasis in urban area" related article (click below) https://www.bangkokpost.com/life/travel/1956147/exploring-bangkoks-green-lung (13 May 2024) THE-GLOW teaching team has developed a course namely, "Gender and climate change intersections: a transdiciplinary approach (4-14 June 2024)" and it has one-day field trip to 'Bang Kachao' Island, a hidden oasis in urban area located in southern part of Bangkok city. The teaching team members from KU (Ajarn Anchna, Ajarn, Chris), TU (Ajarn Li), and AIT (Ajarn Philippe) pre-visited the field sites to prepare the student's activities in 3 places: 1) Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market, 2) Stingless bee farm, and 3) firefly eco-tourism site. By visiting the local communities, each student group will interview the people to observe their life style, adaptation, and community activities to solve any kinds of real-world problems related with climate change, gender, agriculture, and health. All the students planned to visit the Island dated on 8 (Sat.) June 2024. The highligh for the teaching team was, visiting 'firefly eco-tourism sites' experiencing special moment in the Urban environment! Here, feel the 'Christmas decoration like fireflies flashing in the dark Island' (ft. Ajarn Anchana). Interesting part of the two different ecosystems was the highly contrast views. See the dark Island compare to the other side of shining Bangkok city view! (ft. speed boat!) This is only a small part of the course. Stay tunned for the actual visitings with the student groups very soon! [THE-GLOW] A new course opening!!! Gender and climate change intersections: a transdiciplinary approach (4-14 June 2024) This course focuses on analyzing interactions between climate change, gender, environment, and health. The analysis will be based on theoretical frameworks, case studies, observations and interviews that deepen understanding of these complex relationships, at the same time providing input for potential transdiscip;inary interventions to confront the urgent problem of climate change (SDG 13) in all its dimensions. Learning topics are: Transdisciplinary approach to climate change Intersenctions of gender and climate change Field visiting for analytical frameworks Communicating transdiciplinary findings
