[Event Report] THE-GLOW Conference and Colloquium (10–11 Oct 2025)

22 October 2025

imageThe Real Ento team participated in the THE-GLOW Conference and Colloquium held on 10–11 October 2025.

Over the past two years, the THE-GLOW project aimed at developing transdisciplinary higher education for global wellbeing has successfully designed nine courses and delivered six of them in collaboration with three partner universities in Thailand and two in the EU (Germany and the Netherlands). As the project approaches its conclusion at the end of this year, the event brought together teachers, students, and stakeholders who contributed to its success.

imageOn the first day, 10 October, the conference opened with a series of engaging panel discussions. From Kasetsart University (KU), Mr. Su-Chart Lee, Chairman of King Service Center, President of the Asian Pest Management Association, and Advisor to the Pest Management Association of Thailand, was invited as a guest speaker. He shared an inspiring message emphasizing that “the mind is directly linked to the body,” and maintaining both in good health and happiness is essential for success particularly for the younger generation in their life and work.

imageDr. Chris Daeyun Kim from the Department of Entomology, Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University, who was involved in developing and delivering four courses under THE-GLOW, joined the first panel discussion titled 'Experiences of Transdisciplinary Teaching and Learning'. He shared his reflections alongside two KU students, Mr. Sydney and Mr. Paul, who had enrolled in the courses.

imageMr. Sydney noted that the THE-GLOW courses significantly influenced his mindset and broadened his perspective, which was reflected in his research. For instance, his study on dengue vector mosquito management using Sterile Insect Technology (SIT) expanded to include considerations beyond biological control such as human behavior and pesticide use that may inadvertently reduce the effectiveness of released sterile males.

Dr. Kim added that such transdisciplinary interactions help students recognize their own limitations and learn to collaborate across diverse academic and cultural backgrounds. He emphasized that this 'open-mindedness' is a key competency for future transdisciplinary professionals.

imageOn the following day, 11 October, a private colloquium was held at Thammasat University with project staff and stakeholders to review outcomes and plan for the next phase. Discussions focused on integrating transdisciplinary education and research into society and business contexts to ensure the project’s real-world impact. A major point of consensus was the need to embed the developed curricula into existing programs at each partner university for long-term sustainability. The participants concluded with a brainstorming session on potential funding opportunities to continue the project in the future.
