[ICTMM2024] Symposium "Mosquito and vector control: Where do we stand?"

imageThe RESCUE_KU team held a symposium at the ICTMM2024 dated on 23 September.

Director of the RESCUE, Prof. Theeeraphap Chareonviriyaphap (Kasetsart University) and our Honorary Board member, Prof. Sylvie Manguin (French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development) were Chairperson of the symposium.

Prof. Sylvie gave a talk about 'Malaria control in Angola and immunological markers as indicator of vector control effectiveness'.

Prof. Theeraphap continued his talk entitled, 'Important vector-borne diseases in AECs and implications for control'.

Following speakers were,

Dr. Jeffrey Hii, 'An integrated vector management strategy for the control of simian malaria in Malaysia and Thailand'.

Mr. Manop Saeung, 'Dirus complex species identification PCR (DiCSIP) improves identification of Anopheles dirus complex from Greater Mekong subregion'.

Mr. John Aerol Nobleza, 'Sampling efficacy of moving sweep net collection of Aedes albopictus (Skuse) (Diptera: Culicidae) in a rubber plantation ecotype'.

Ms. Jutamas Kerdsawang, 'Aedes albopictus responses against transfluthrin impregnated-polyester fabrics in semi-field-testing chamber and their residual effects in different period of times'.

Mr. Suntorn Pimnon, 'Comparison of four outdoor Anopheles vectors mosquito trapping methods as potential replacements for human landing catch targeting Southeast Asia'.

Ms. Kanlayanee Powchai, 'Discriminating lethal dose of chemical compounds in type 2 pyrethroid using the WHO bottle bioassay technique against Culex quinquefasciatus (Diptera: Culicidae)'.

In addition, the Deputy Director of Research, Development, Training, and International Affairs of the RESCUE, Dr. Chris Daeyun Kim shared his ongoing research about 'Push-Pull' strategy using mosquito spatial repellent, and attractants for mosquito traps.

Overall, the ICTMM2024 in Kuching was an exceptional gathering of global experts in tropical medicine and malaria research, with over 1,400 participants from around the world, marking a significant success for the event.

Special thanks to the Malaysian organizing committee and the Malaysian Society of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine (MSPTM) for their excellent coordination and dedication in ensuring the event's success. We also extend our gratitude to all the attendees whose contributions enriched the conference.

The next meeting will be held in Liverpool, England, in 2028.
